Under 10s competition:

Design a boat for the river Lagan!

Deadline: Friday 30 August 2024

Information:

We’re calling on you to design a boat for the river Lagan! Draw, paint or collage your boat. Your sheet of paper can be as small as a butterfly, or as big as a school bag or even two.

To start, think about the river that runs through Belfast:

  • Is the river wide?

  • How fast does the water flow?

  • Is the river deep enough for a submarine?

  • What does the river look like when you pass it in a car, or a bus, or on foot?

Think about how the river was used in the past, and how is it used now:

  • Who has rowed up and down the river in the past, and why?

  • Are there any treasures buried under the banks of the river?

  • Is it true that the fish who used to swim in the river a thousand years ago were as big as the Big Fish?

How to design your boat:

  1. Decide on the materials you want to use, e.g. pens, pencils, paper, card, or paint – and make a start!

  2. Show us or write a description of how your boat acts in the river.

  3. When you’re finished, stand back and look at what you’ve made - well done! Imagine your boat on the river.

  4. Write your name and age on the back of your boat and ask your parent or guardian to take a good photo of your completed design.

  5. Ask your parent or guardian to send the photo to boats@pssquared.org and include their phone number

Prizes:

  • The winner will receive family tickets (2 adults, 2 children) to Titanic Belfast (worth £62).
